CSWEP Board Member - Jean Kimmel


Jean Kimmel is a Senior Economist at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her research interests include child care, welfare-to-work, employment-related health issues, and multiple-job holding. New research projects include a study of school-aged child care, child care and welfare recipiency, and disability as an employment barrier. Recent research output includes journal articles, conference volumes, and government contract reports. Kimmel also teaches occasionally, including a course taught for Kalamazoo College in 1995 on the economics of race and gender.

Dr. Kimmel has received research funding from the National Science Foundation and the Joint Center for Poverty Research at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago (the latter is funding joint with Professor Rachel Connelly of Bowdoin College). Kimmel earned her B.A. in Economics from the George Washington University in 1982, her M.A. in Economics from the University of Delaware in 1984, and her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990.
