Karine
Moe is an Associate Professor of Economics at Macalester College in Saint Paul,
Minnesota. She also teaches regularly in the Women and Gender Studies Program
at Macalester. Moe earned a Ph.D. (1995) and M.A. (1992) in economics at the
University of Minnesota, a Master of Public Policy (1989) at Harvard University's
John F. Kennedy School of Government, and a B.A. (1985) in economics from Saint
Olaf College.
Moe teaches courses on the economics of gender, labor economics, economics of poverty, and principles. Her main scholarly interests are in economic demography, the informal sector, and labor economics. In particular, she is interested in how the use of time (especially for women and girls) affects labor market outcomes. Her current research focuses on Hispanic girls' education choices in the U.S. In addition to publishing journal articles, Moe is the editor of Women, Family, and Work: Writings on the Economics of Gender, Blackwell, 2003. This volume is written for use in an undergraduate course on economics of gender.
