CSWEP Board Member - Caren A. Grown


Caren Grown directs the Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth team at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), which seeks to improve knowledge, policies and programs to increase women’s control over productive assets and to improve their income-earning opportunities and capabilities.  Prior to joining ICRW, she was a Senior Program Officer at the John D. and Catherine MacArthur Foundation in Chicago, Illinois where she managed the Collaborative Research competition on governance challenges in the global economy, and conceived and implemented a five -year Foundation-wide initiative to award grants for research, graduate training and communication/application of new ideas in economics.  In the early 1990s, Dr. Grown was an economist with the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Bureau of the Census.  She has edited three special issues of World Development on macroeconomics, international trade, and gender inequality, and is the co-author with Gita Sen of Development, Crises and Alternative Visions:  Third World Women's Perspectives (Monthly Review Press, 1987).  Grown holds Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the New School University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UCLA.
